Newport Gwent Dragons and Wales hooker Lloyd Burns has been forced to retire from rugby due to a serious heart condition.

Newport Gwent Dragons and Wales hooker Lloyd Burns has been forced to retire from rugby due to a serious heart condition. This shocking news has dealt a massive blow to Lloyd and his wife Rachel who has just given birth to their first child. It has also rocked the rugby community who have witnessed his meteoric rise from bricklayer to a member of the Wales’ world cup squad.

Facing such a situation is terrible for anybody but is particularly devastating when the person is so young with such a bright future ahead of him. Lloyd and his family are now facing an uncertain future.

The next few months will be filled with health worries, hospital visits and possible major surgery. Longer term, there are financial implications. We, Lloyd’s friends and family, want to help ease the burden in whatever way we can and to show how much we care.
